About Us
"I'm glad I did the program. I feel happy that I did it 'cause usually I'm a coach potato, sit down, watch soap operas, watch talk shows, eat junk, go to the corner store, buy candy, buy chips, buy candy bars, buy cookies, buy ice cream. Now I'm not like that no more. Now my mother takes me to Jamaica Pond, and we do a ten minute walk around, or walking with my mom to the mall, or cleaning the house, or just being in the park with Lillian and her sister, running around playing tag."
- Nina Tyler, Boston Girls Fitness and Nutrition Program Participant

WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTER

Project HEALTH's newest program - the Women's Resource Center - is located at the OB-GYN clinic of Boston Medical Center and serves a diverse group of primarily low-income women ranging from pregnant teens to seasoned grandmothers. With the goal of improving the broadly-defined health of women and their families, volunteers provide women with information, referral services, support and advocacy on issues ranging from housing to child care to health insurance. Volunteers will staff a help desk at Boston Medical Center, assisting women at the hospital and maintaining continuing relationships with them. Because the Women's Resource Center is a relatively new program, volunteers will have much power to shape the program's development and will have the freedom to take on projects that reflect their own interests. There will also be many opportunities to work closely with doctors and other hospital staff, as well as with the other Project HEALTH programs that operate at Boston Medical Center.
