About Us
"Jeremy's become very independent with his asthma now. He's very comfortable with it. He doesn't think of it as a disease or hindering him now. He takes it more as, not so much as a gift, but something he can control on his own, you know, he's a normal person. Before, he thought, 'Oh, I'm sickly,' but the Asthma Swimming Program taught so much about asthma, breathing, how to control it. It has been wonderful, I have no complaints."
- Alicia Fullerton, Mother of Jeremy Fullerton, Boston Asthma Swimming Program

FAMILY HELP DESK

The Family Help Desk uses families’ clinic visits as a point of entry to address the many non-medical issues that affect child health.

Goals:

  • To fill the gap between resources needed by families and those that are provided by medical professionals
  • Make the public welfare system less confusing
  • Empower people to better their situation

Services: Volunteers provide information, referrals, and advocacy on all of the issues listed below both at the desk and over the phone.

    • Housing
    • Public Benefits
    • Utilities
    • Food
    • Jobs
    • Adult Education
    • Childcare
    • Immigration

In addition, volunteers follow-up with clients weekly until their cases have been resolved

Location: The waiting room of the clinics on the lower level of Hasbro Children’s Hospital

      Hours: Monday-Friday, 1-4 pm

Accomplishments: Volunteers at the Providence Family Help Desk saw over 200 families this year. Their accomplishments include connecting 47 families with job training or adult education, 23 families with quality childcare, and 30 families with free legal advice.
