Awards & Recognition
National:
- 2010: Rebecca Onie selected as one of the Massachusetts Law Report's "Rx for Excellence" award recipients. The MLR's "Rx for Excellence" awards honor physicians, risk managers, health care attorneys, and other professionals for best practices in promoting safety, quality, and risk management in health care.
- 2010: Project HEALTH wins Massachusetts Nonprofit Network Innovation Award. The MNN hosts the annual Excellence Awards to bring attention to examples of various contributions that nonprofits make across the state of Massachusetts. The awards shine a spotlight on nonprofit organizations and individuals making a difference in their communities and to increase public awareness.
- 2010: Rebecca Onie named as Young Global Leader. Each year the World Economic Forum awards this honor to the "most distinguished young leaders nominated below the age of 40 from around the world," in recognition of their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through inspiring leadership. The 2010 honourees will become part of the broader Forum of Young Global Leaders community, and are invited to events and opportunities around the world, including the chance to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
- 2009: Rebecca Onie selected as one of two recipients of the John F. Kennedy "New Frontier Award". The award was created by the Kennedy Library Foundation and Harvard's Institute of Politics to honor Americans under the age of 40 who are changing their communities and the country with their commitment to public service. The awards are presented annually to two exceptional individuals whose contributions in elective office, community service, or advocacy demonstrate the impact of public service in the spirit of John F. Kennedy.
- 2009: Rebecca Onie named a 2009 MacArthur Fellow by John D. and Catharine T. MacArthur Foundation. The MacArthur Foundation supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. Awarded to talented individuals in a variety of fields who have shown exceptional originality in and dedication to their creative pursuits, MacArthur Fellows receive $500,000 grants with no conditions -- recipients may use the money as they see fit. Rebecca Onie was selected on the basis of the following criteria: "exceptional creativity, promise for important future advances based on a track record of significant accomplishment, and potential for the fellowship to facilitate subsequent creative work."
- 2009: Rebecca Onie chosen as Commencement Speaker for the Boston University Sargent School of Public Health
- 2008: Rebecca Onie selected as a Fellow in Ashoka's United States program. Ashoka Fellows are leading social entrepreneurs who are recognized to have innovative solutions and the potential to change patterns across society. Ashoka Fellows must undergo a rigorous search and selection process in which they demonstrate the following attributes: a big new idea, creativity, entrepreneurial quality, social impact and ethical fiber. Ashoka Fellows, found all across the world and from a variety of backgrounds, all share a unique entrepreneurial quality: to pursue their vision relentlessly until it becomes a reality.
