Our Volunteers
The Project HEALTH volunteers are a select corps of passionate, committed undergraduates who prioritize making real impact with their service work. Volunteers dedicate at least 6 hours each week to Project HEALTH and make a minimum commitment of one year. Most continue with Project HEALTH from the day they start until the day they graduate, with almost 80% of non-graduating students choosing to continue with Project HEALTH each year.
Project HEALTH selects volunteers through a rigorous application and interview process. Because of our high volunteer retention rates and the significant demand for this type of impact-driven service experience on our campuses, we often have up to five times as many applicants as we have open volunteer positions. All volunteers receive extensive training from Project HEALTH staff and physicians, social workers, and community leaders prior to beginning their work with families and participate in ongoing trainings throughout their time as volunteers.
Each year, our nearly 600 volunteers will dedicate over 80,000 hours in the service of low-income families - the equivalent of 38 full-time employees.
